Refrigeration - rules and hacks

Food storage dates and rules in the refrigerator.

When we return home after shopping, we often refrigerate products unknowingly, mechanically. However, there are a few simple rules, which will help us to optimally use a space, store the product properly and prevent the spread of bacteria.

When an average of 5 degrees is indicated, it means that the temperature according to the shelves varies between 0 - 8 degrees. Every shelf has its purpose. Their location in the fridge varies according to brands and designs, however you will definitely find all the necessary information in the user manual. It is important to place each product on as specially designated shelf. This will enable us to prevent the spread of microbes and spoilage of food.

  • Cold zone - 0 - 3 degrees is intended for storing raw meat and fish, as well as for frozen products prepared for thawing.
  • Cool zone - 4 - 6 degrees, you can fridge prepared lunch, vegetables, confectionery, cheese and other dairy products.
  • Vegetable zone - 6 - 8 degrees, where raw fruits and vegetables, herbs are stored.
  • Fridge door - 6 - 8 degrees is intended for drinks, eggs, various spices, sauces and butter.
  • When unpacking products, it is important not to leave the fridge door open for a long time.
  • It is recommended to thoroughly clean the fridge with antibacterial solution once in 2 weeks.

Shelf life of ready-made food at home:

Boiled / fried vegetables are stored in plus fridge for 3-4 days in a sealed container.
It is recommended to store the prepared fish for a maximum of 2 days in a sealed, glass container.

You can store ready-made meat products in in a sealed container for an average of 3 days, preferably in a glass container.

It is recommended to store ready-made foods containing dairy products, eggs and butter for only 24 hours. A dish with dough and / or tomatoes should be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.

As for cakes, the storing conditions depend on the ingredients e.g. it is better to eat baked apple or other fruit pies within three days, while the creamy confectionery is better to eat within a maximum of 24 hours.

It is advisable to specify the dates of preparation of dishes on the containers to avoid food poisoning.
Another common mistake is storing hot food in the fridge as you can spoil all the products or dishes in a fridge.

Food can be stored in a fridge only 2 hours after preparation.
The recommended temperature in the fridge is 5 degrees, however when the shelves are overfilled, the air does not circulate, which means it is actually a much higher temperature, which can lead to early spoilage of food and the multiplication of microbes.
