There was a time when people ate only seasonal and local products. Today you can buy non-seasonal fruits or vegetables, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants in any large supermarket; you can buy citruses and grapes in summer, quince in spring and so on.
Of course it is very good to have any product you want available all year round, however this diversity also has its downsides. For example, stored fruits / vegetables are treated with pesticides and waxes to maintain a long-lasting appearance and to withstand transportation. Many fruits / vegetables are picked while still raw and then ripened with the help of chemicals. Such products lose vitamins, antioxidants and taste properties during storage and cooling, and a product treated with large amounts of pesticides is also harmful to health.
The advantage of seasonal and local products is the high content of nutrients, because fruits or vegetables are harvested as soon as they ripen and reach the consumer instantly. Ripe, freshly picked fruits and vegetables are much tastier than stored ones. In addition to health, buying local products has other advantages - we help local farmers, which is a great support for them.
You will find lots of interesting dishes with seasonal products on our website. In the late spring I will share with you one delicious salad recipe that you will definitely like.
To prepare a seasonal salad, you will need: lettuce, watercress, radish, asparagus, strawberry, mozzarella or fresh sulguni.
Cut the asparagus into large pieces and fry on an oiled pan on a high heat for 2-3 minutes. Arrange the salad with the given ingredients. Use olive oil and vinegar for dressing. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Enjoy!
