The almond is a species of tree that is native to the Middle East and India and North Africa. There are about 40 species of almond in the world and only two of them - Amygdalus communis and Amygdalus georgica - grow in Georgia. Nowadays, the biggest amount of almond grows in America.
It should be noticed, that almond is one of the healthiest products. It contains calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, vitamins B and E, proteins and fats. The sweet almond contains natural non-drying oil, which is used in medicine.
Almond is used for various salads. Confectionary is not convincible without this product. The most popular French dessert – Macaroon – is made of almond flour. Almonds are used in liqueur production, the most known almond liqueur is Amaretto Disaronno. Almond syrup is a component of various cocktails and coffees. One of the best-known cocktail – Mai Tai – is not convincible without this component.
